Daily Routine

All children learn by playing.  At Alena’s Love we structure activities to enable children to participate at the level of their abilities. Each session consists of meaningful activities to stimulate each child and support their individual learning needs.

The Day Care Centre program starts at 8am and runs until 1pm.

Each morning begins with welcoming songs and sensory play. The Molo-song (Xhosa meaning: greetings) is a favourite, helping each child feel welcome. This is followed by a group activity planned according to a specific weekly theme. The facilitators communicate with the children in their mother tongue, demonstrating the activities to enhance the learning experience.

Late mornings are reserved for individual activities, where each child gets the opportunity to engage in specific therapeutic activities planned by a therapist.  Staff and volunteers spend time with each child on an individual basis. The day care is equipped with therapeutic positioning devices as well as toys to cater for kids with low vision and specific sensory needs.

Snack and lunch times are incorporated in the schedule and the classroom is filled with the delicious smell of a healthy cooked meal.

Their day ends with a story from the Bible and a goodbye song. All staff and volunteers are motivated to ensure that each child receives a unique learning experience.
