Like most equipment for children with disabilities, it is practically impossible for any caregiver to get our equipment home by themselves; so our therapists deliver the equipment when they visit the children and their families. A home environment is always a less threatening environment to instruct the caregiver in the use and care of the equipment. It is also very important for us to understand the family situation. During these home visits, our therapists fit the child in the required equipment and train the caregiver. Without proper and regular use the equipment is of little benefit to the child. Our therapists also share appropriate handling techniques with the caregivers, giving them ideas to stimulate the child. We feel it is very important to encourage the caregiver – and to pray for them, if they so wish.
On demand our counsellor visits the mothers and offers them psychological support. During these meetings the mothers get a chance to share about their personal challenges and their hopes for the future. Together they discover the way forward.
Our counselling project is supported by Anglican Aid. Please click on logo to find out more about our project they are supporting as well about their organisation.
